Why I’m glad I’m a “Millennial”

Blog, Uncategorized

Millennials are generally perceived as privileged, lazy, self absorbed and entitled….

It’s time to get this straight.

It’s time to lay out on the table why millennials are the way we are. It’s because we’re tired of a world where people are working jobs they don’t like, ending up marrying people because “it’s the right thing to do.” We’re tired of people hating their lives because they’re afraid of their own dreams and aspirations.

We’re in a world now with the highest divorce rate (it’s estimated that 40-50% of first marriages will end in divorce.) Over 70% of people don’t like their current jobs, and more than 3.3 million americans suffer from persistent depression.

As a Millennial we can’t sit still. We are always learning and constantly evolving to keep up with trends in the workplace and life. Not all of us are lazy, of course some of us are, but that’s in any generation. We’re not looking for handouts.. we’re looking for a way to be happy with our lives.

You see life is different now. We are living in a time where ideas are thriving thanks to social media, the internet and hard work. Someone can create an empire from a single thought and this generation loves to help people achieve their ultimate goals. We want to see people happy, not settling.

Life is meant to be lived, maybe you should live it with us?

JackThreads just changed up their game, and it looks good

If you’re a guy that likes his style and wants to look good without trying to hard then JackThreads is for you. Up until last week JackThreads was owned by Thrillist Media and was more of a flash sale site, but now they are operating as 2 separate companies and they’re changing up their game. With the new change comes a new line suitably named “JackThreads”. The new changes are focused on giving the customer great clothes for great prices. The collection will include everyday tees, denim, blazers and coats, even cashmere sweaters. The best part is all the pieces are reasonably priced and they look good.

It’s one of the most visually stunning apps out there. With the new changes comes a new design, and it looks damn good. The minute you open the app you see new items, colors and styles that are trending, and the things you should buy.

FullSizeRender (1)

Things are easy to return too. If you get the wrong size or just didn’t like what you got, just return it. With the new app refresh customer service is easy as can be. You can do a live chat within the app, email , or call their support line. I’ve had some of the best customer service experience with the team at JackThreads.

Do yourself a favor, download JackThreads and upgrade your look.

The weird thing about Death and Social Media

Tech

IMG_0966

I recently visited the grave of my dad’s father who died in the 60’s and something weird happened. I felt weird thinking this is where he ended, I didn’t know much about him. I realized the way we live with social media today, maybe we’re more blessed than we realize. I know it’s a weird thing to know the first thing I thought of was social media when I went to the gravesite, let me explain.

We are connected to our family and friends more than ever. I’m friends with family on Facebook I see very little of, but I get to see into their world more than I ever would. I can see the Facebook of family members that have passed. It’s weird but it’s also a reminder of who that person was on a different level. That person posted on their social media, it was their thoughts. It wasn’t an idea that someone had of that person.

According to GlobalWebIdex, the average user logs 1.72 hours per day on social platforms, which represents about 28 percent of all online activity.

Today we are more connected than ever. With social media it’s kind of a way you live on.

5 Apps to help you pay people back

Tech

cash

We’ve all been there, that awkward moment when you owe someone money but you have no cash! According to Aljazeera America nearly 1 in 10 Americans only carry cards — less then $20 dollars in cash daily. Luckily,  there are some apps to help you solve your problem.

  1. DirectPay from your bank app

If you already have a bank app like WellsFargo or Chase this may be the easiest way to transfer cash to that person you owe. All you will need is the account holder’s email and phone number. It’s safe and the other person receiving the cash doesn’t see any of your info. Oh, and it’s free.

2. Venmo

Service fees? Credit card payments 2.9% fee, Free for Debit Card Payments and Bank account transfers

Venmo, who’s owned by PayPal, may be the most social way to send money on an app. You can sign up with Email or Facebook. You can keep up with friends in a newsfeed and who’s paying up. It’s as simple as typing in a friend’s name, phone or email, saying what you’re paying for and the amount.

You can also send requests to people so they don’t forget to pay up.

3. Square Cash

Service fees — none

In a world obsessed with hashtags Square has figured out away to be a little creative with Cash. Cashtag — the only thing you need to send to your friends so they can pay you with Square Cash. It’s quick, easy and you can keep track of what you receive and send.

4. SnapCash

For as much as people use SnapChat most people forget it’s one of the easiest ways to send cash to a friend. Once you link your debit card it’s as simple as sending a snap.

  1. Type $ and the amount you want to send and that’s it.
  2. If you want to make it rain just type in 3 $$$ and see the Swipe-to-send option. This is the way you want to do it, believe me.

You can get back to your new SnapChat filters once you’re done.

5. PayPal

PayPal may be the most obvious but it’s king when dealing with money on the internet and apps. Free to send from a PayPal account to another.

Another great thing about PayPal is there is always deals with online retailers!

Why did it take so long to start a blog?

The inception of being named Alexis.
Alexis Ohanian pointing at a photo of Alexis Arguello being sent to me on twitter

It’s a weird thing to be a recent college graduate. You’ve just spent so many years of your life majoring in a certain subject, but now it’s time for the real world. We’re formulated to go to school, get a job, have a family, and that’s what we know. It’s the same ol’ merry-go-round. However, we forget that we’re living in a time where you can create your own life with a keyboard, an idea, and some guts.

“The great thing about the Internet is, it’s the freest marketplace of ideas that there is.” – Alexis Ohanian

An idea can be as massive as Facebook or as simple as a blog, but a great idea can influence great movements, or bring people together. We are not limited, we are unlimited.

So why did it take so long to start a blog? I was missing the guts. We have unlimited potential to be who we want, but it’s frightening to be limitless. It’s scary to not know what’s next. You can settle and take the smoother course or become who you always wanted to be.
